How long is to long for a dog to be in a crate?
We just got a rescue dog with problems potty traning. We have school during the day and need to keep her in her crate so she wont make a mess in the house. How long would it be ok to keep her in the creat for. Do you think it would be better for her if we kept the tv on for her while she is in the crate?

Longest I have ever left a dog in a crate was 8 hours. That was an adult dog, who ate once a day and could hold their bladder for that long.
Depending on the age of the dog, he/she will need to be let out often enough to use the potty.
Try leaving a radio on, and try leaving it off. Some dogs prefer auditory company, others do not. Make sure he has water and a couple of good toys to play with.
Hi: Well, it depends on the age of the dog. I undertand you have a life and she needs to go into a crate. Also, the radio or Tv is a good idea for any pet that is alone.
If she is under 4 months old, You will have to give her a potty break ever 2 hours if possible… If not, you can put her in the bathroom with some wee wee paper and a baby gate. At least then she can go on the paper …
If she is 6-8 months old, she can make it 6 hours or so…. It is hard to know for sure. If there is any way someone can come home at luchtime, to let her out?
Sorry, it is a hard one… You may crate her for more than 6 hours but she may have an accident. You know, she is still a kid.
Best wishes on your new dog.

I would not keep her in the crate for no longer than four or five hours and I would turn the TV on the animal planet beacuse it will catch your dog’s attention and help with the boredom.
Depends on the age of the dog. I’m not comfortable with anything much longer than 4-5 hours. You also need to take some time to make the crate a positive space for her before just leaving her there for an extended period of time.
How old is the dog?
More than 5 hours, in my book
This depends on the age, a typical chart to follow is 1 hour for every month old, and 1 hour for birth, so if the dog is 3 months old, you can expect them to hold their bladder for 4 hours. Up to 8 hours.
I would not leave a dog crated for longer than 8 or 9 hours at full adult age, if you have to leave them for longer, arrange for a babysitter or someone to stop by midday to let them out.
It depends on the age of the dog and the fact that he/she has issues with potty training it shoudl not be left for more than an hour or so. Your dog can only hold it for approx. 1 hour per month of age. No dog should be left in their crate for more than a couple of hours. The longest mine is in his is 6 hours, but that’s at night for sleep and I’m right there in the room with him. If he needs to go out and whines, I can get up and take him out. I hate to say it, but if no one’s home to take care of it during the day, you shouldn;t have gotten one, especially one with a potty issue.
*puppi lvr* you’re a moron you know absolutely nothing about dogs BYB!
I would not leave a puppy in a crate for much more than 2 hours at a time and an adult dog 4 hrs at a time.
If you plan on being gone for more than that then you really need to consider hiring someone or having friend/family take the dog out for a potty break and play session.
how long would you feel ok in a space that small
