Is it fair to leave one dog in a crate, the other not in a crate?

Find an old large towel that you don’t care about anymore and drape it over the crate after you put her in it. Also, give her an old sock or t-shirt of yours that has your scent on it, put it in the crate with her. Try playing some background music in the room her crate is in or record your voice and let it play in the background and close the door. Do not run in every time she starts to make noise, she’s training you to come when she wants you. If your older dog sleeps in a crate at night, try putting them face to face so that the little one can see that she’s not alone. If you don’t want your dogs sleeping on your bed, by all means, do not start now and then attempt to stop it later, it won’t work.

You know that sometimes babies just have to cry, you can’t run in every time they do, as they need to learn how to comfort themselves, well the same goes for puppies, she will learn, it’s just going to take some time. Hang in there and good luck.

I always set a new puppy’s crate right next to my side of the bed. That way if the pup becomes restless in the night I can put my hand on the crate to reassure it. You will be amazed at how calming that little contact is to a puppy. As the puppy gets a little older you will be able to move the crate to where ever you want it.
At 8 weeks, if you have the ability to do so, take a towell and wipe down the puppy’s mother or littermates with it and then put the towell on the floor of the crate.

Yes, it is fair. I have had the same situation in my home. I have two German Shepherd Dogs, ages 16 months and 25 months. Both are crate trained. The older dog has the run of the house. The younger dog is crated whenever we leave the house for any length of time. If both are out of the crates when we are gone, they evidently will get bored and begin to play. Which results in knocking over lamps and moving area rugs. I keep both crates together in a separate room. I would not move the crate to your bedroom. The puppy will settle down after she becomes crate trained. It will only take a few weeks, if you do not respond to the crying. Never let her out of the crate when crying, otherwise you are reinforcing the crying behavior. She will not become jealous. put her in the room with her. it will make her feel more comfotable. also i have heard that if you get a clock that ticks and stick it in a pillowcase and put it in with the puppy it will help it fall asleep. they also say to get the puppy to stop yelping and crying in its cage. to scare it. it souds mean but it worked with me. i dont know why it did but it did. hopefully you will figure something out.

Puppies are just that…..puppies. Moving the crates into the room will help, but keep in mind that u will hear the pup rustling around and it may keep you awake. You may also try putting a clock in the crate with the pup. Sometimes it works depending on the breed.
