Our dog had puppies and we have decided to keep one. Our mother dog is fully house trained, and uses a doggy door. We did not crate train her, but I would like to do this with the new pup. Is it fair and okay that one gets the run of the house while the other is in the crate, or is that just cruel? Please give reasons why as well! Thanks for all positive answers!!!
I am trying to crate train my dachshund, Coco. She is already 10 months old and she’s not housebroken yet. If I let her run around in a room, she’ll pee and poop at least once when I’m at school. If I keep her in the crate, she might not go potty. I’ve read articles on crate training and house training, and that I shouldn’t leave my dog in he crate for too long, but I have to go to school and both my parents have jobs. I want her to be housebroken once and for all.
I have a 8 week old puppy and also a 6 year old dog. We have been trying to crate train the puppy to sleep in the crate at night. Our older dog loves her "home". We thought of putting both crates next to eachother, in hope the puppy would not feel left alone. However, she will only sleep when I’m in the room with her. If I decide to let her sleep in the bed with us until she is a little older, will I be creating a larger problem? Will my older dog be jealous? Both crates are in a separate bedroom from ours. Would it help to move the crates into our bedroom at night? I can only get about 3 hours of sleep at a time right now based upon the puppies schedule. I understand having to let her outside to go potty, the problem isn’t that. The problem is the hour it takes to get her to calm down in the crate, only to be awoke by her cries when she discovers I have left the room. Any suggestions? Or any recommendations on good literature for crate training? This is our first time having to do it.
I have a teacup min pin who is 4. I just adopted him and I need to crate train him. I got him a crate that is a travel one (with the handle). I got him a small/medium crate and he hates it. I put treats in there and he won’t even go in for that. Do I need to get a big crate? Any suggestions?
I asked a question earlier, but it was NOT phrased right and everyone jumps to the conclusion my dog is being abused and not loved..
anyways. i just bought a chihuahua puppy after doing years of research, and am trying to crate train it. The only time is will be in its crate room will be during the day for 6hrs while I am at work. Its crate is in a laundry room with his food, toys, and potty pads, it had lots of windows and is big. In the mornings I walk and play with it and then put it in the laundry room. When I am home at 2 I let it out and it is left out all night until bedtime to play and walk.
My question is, when it gets put in its crate it cries and cries and dosent stop crying. You see i am trying to crate train it for the next couple days because I dont have work.It needs to get used to being alone for a while while I am at work. Also when I travel, crate training will be helpful. I try for 30min periods a couple times a day to put it in its crate an shut it and leave. It cries and cries for ever and dosent stop. I feel so bad! It tried to claw its way out of it, the crate should be a happy den place for it, not a torture cage! It is plenty big enough too, with all his toys and moms blanket in it.
also I dont want it to become too attached, because then I have heard of dogs having separation anxiety and I would never wish that on my baby!!
Will this stop?
We just got a small dog and am trying to learn how to house/crate train. Do people crate their dog when they go to work? Ours sleeps well in his during the night but he can see my daughter at all times. If she gets up and out of his view, he cries and barks.
I have three dogs I want to crate train. Should I buy three separate crates or can I simply buy a bigger one that can fit all of them?
